More speakers from Engineering Apollo
Last Wednesday, Bob Seamans spoke to my Engineering Apollo class. What a treat. Bob was Deputy Administrator of NASA during Apollo's formative years. He spent a lot of time in Washington and reported to President Kennedy on several occasions. After NASA, Bob held several high ranking positions in the government before returning to MIT (where he obtained his masters) to be the dean of the school of engineering. Now, Bob has been working on a book that outlines his experiences with the Apollo missions. He is 87 years old and still sharp as a whip.
Sy Liebergot spoke to our class on Monday. Sy was a EECOM (Electrical, Environmental, Consumables) flight controller on Apollo missions 8-15. Flight controllers were the people that sat in the big mission control room during the Apollo missions. Sy was the first flight controller we've seen this semester and it was interesting to get their perspective. Sy was made somewhat famous by his portrayal in Apollo 13. Clint Howard (Ron's brother) played Sy in the movie:

Clint doesn't look anything like Sy, but Sy said they did a pretty good job of recounting the events of Apollo 13. Sy was pushing his book on his experiences with Apollo. It seems that all the major figures of Apollo have come out with a book at some point.

Funny, I saw Apollo 13 over the weekend and I immediately recognized Sy from the picture on your blog.
